A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

We’re Back!

by Slack, on April 26th, 2003

The move went ok… considering… All I can say is, NEVER AGAIN! We had tons of help and even with everyone pitching in, it was a major pain in the butt. Nothing worse than moving. I think a lot had to do with Heidi and I having been mentally and physically stretched to our limits the weeks before. We’re just about spent. But we’re kicking ass. We got all new light fixtures up. These new fangled homes don’t have those cheesy wall fixtures like in our other house. We moved over to the new place, and night came upon us. It was then we realized, “Hey, we don’t own any lamps!” Well we do now. Damn nice if I do say so myself.

We’re moved in, but not settled. The office and living areas are a go. The Master Bedroom is a go. But everything else is in a random state of shambles. Our garage is just horrible. So, now we are racing against the clock to get business functions going before the 29th (the promise date when everything would be back in gear). I just ordered new address stamps today. Ugh.

And, here’s a look through my mud colored glasses (you didn’t think life would be all rosey just because we moved, did you?): THIS JUST IN: The people buying our old house didn’t get their FHA loan. More news at eleven!

Last Transmission…

by Slack, on April 21st, 2003

Well, here’s our last transmission from this old house. We’ll be crossing over to communication black out in about 15 minutes. Back online hopefully in a day or two.

We’re going to miss this place. We’ll miss the fireplace for sure. No cozy fireplace at our new house. The nice cool water of the pool will be missed (by me at least). I’m a water baby at heart. This house has character, that’s for sure. But, it’s also on the edge of ghetto-ville with crack dealers in the apartment complex down the road. Not the best place to raise a family… Unless of course your trying to take advantage of welfare income. Don’t get me wrong, we haven’t had any gunmen shooting off in the alley or anything… Well, not more than once anyway. ;) I’m not gonna miss the size of this house either. Barely enough room to stretch out. And least of all, I wont miss the damn retarted woodpecker who lives around here. He thinks tin is wood. So we wake up each morning to this freak of nature rat-a-tat-tatting on our damn chimney (the tin part). I swear, it’s brains must be scrambled a bit.

So, next transmission will be from our new home out on the edge of nowhere. I wanted to be in the middle of nowhere, but Heidi wont have that. :) So we compromise on the edge of nowhere. Wish us luck on the move, and if you’re joining us for the big day we’ll see you there. Free beer and pizza! :) Ciao!

Almost forgot….

HAPPY EASTER, everyone!

Party at Mark’s

by Slack, on April 20th, 2003

Well, the party last night was quite fun. It was most entertaining listening to the banter between Adam and Julie (both the guests of honor). They’re leaving town soon. I realized this morning, thinking as much as I could amidst the 747 flying through my head, there was a time when I would drink as much as I did in the past two days on the way to get the alcohol for a party. Stu and I used to have a preparty to get primed for the actual party. These days I can barely keep up with the party itself. Ugh… What happened!? So, off I go today on a desperate quest for tylenol and OJ (the drink, not the murderer football player).

In other news, today I quit smoking…. AGAIN…. This time for good! Believe me? Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it too. I just couldn’t see buying another pack today that I’d have to throw away half full tonight. Got my patch on, and drinking copious amounts of water. Tomorrow is our final walkthru at the new house, and Tuesday we move in! Yippie! Thankfully I have the next 5 days off! Yeah for me!

Take care out there, and don’t drink too much…

Electronic Produce

by Slack, on April 19th, 2003

So, I had an interesting night last night. Went over to Drew and Cyn’s and had a BBQ. We had all the standard fun. Cyndi’s dad and stepmom were there, and Drew’s parents were there for a short while as well. Other than that it was just Heidi, myself and Kev. After a few drinks, the fun started. First was Operation Rosebush Freedom. You see, Drew’s neighbors were, among other things, WT, poor money managers, poor housekeepers, loud & annoying, and just generally rotten people. Well, they got their house foreclosed on and left it in a mess. They left other lifeforms to die in the wake of their irresponsibility — two rosebushes and a cat. Unfortunately, the cat perished and could not be saved, but damn it, we could save those rosebushes. So, under the cover of night we hopped the wall, freed them of their bonds and replanted them in Drew’s yard where they could be happy. Truth be told I didn’t do much of the handy work, because Kev was too damn quick about it.

Next was Operation Electric Produce. Ever wonder what you could do with a stripped power cord, two nails, and a pickle? :) Well, wonder no more my friends. I’ll tell ya all about it. It lights up real nice! Right around the time that laughter peeks, you’ll find that you’ve blown a GFCI or two, however. Personally tho I found that the egg we lit up was much cooler. It was a more delicate operation however that involved a DeWalt cordless drill, and two finishing nails. But we got that aborted chicken to light up pretty good indeed! :)

Ahh never a boring moment at Drew’s. :) Tonight we have another party to go to. My boss’ going away party. She’s leaving us for a new crew. Sucks. She’s awesome, and there’s nothing worse than a bad boss. Hopefully this new guy will be as good. Time will tell. That’s the news, and I’m outta here!

Holy Cat, Look at THAT!

by Slack, on April 18th, 2003

So, most of the design work is done… Mostly… I have enough of a grasp of CSS to put up a working and relatively easy to maintain site. Now, I just need to spend a weekend fine tuning things and adding more content. Nothing I hate more than lowercase TAGS. So, what do you think of the new look? Terrible? Awesome? Could care less? ;)

I think I’m gonna go have a cigarette now that I’m done with this. Only a few more days till I quit the nasty cancer-sticks. I’m looking forward to it. Next, I have to code a blurb on TDN so that we can close it up during the move… I love change… like I love a hole in my head.
