A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

elevation (6k image)What’s happening! Life seems strangely positive these days. I know that usually life is quite positive and that I view the world through mud colored glasses, but today I think I’ve taken them off. The new house is still right around the corner. Even in light of recent changes to our loan package (long story). But, our lender rocks, so we’ll still probably be moving in on time. We got the shit list from the buyers for the house we’re in now, and we agreed to some of it, but not all of it. They accepted the terms and everything is rolling along for selling this house. We’ve got a picture of the house for you finally. Me being the geek I am, and Heidi being the treehugger-freak she is, we joined forces today and created a Bagua Map of our house. For those that don’t know, this is a Feng Shui layout of your home. It tells you where to put what, and what things not to do so that you can raise your Ch’i. We’re not pulling any punches this year. Damn it! We’re gonna have a good year! :)

In other news, my sister-in-law…. I think she’s my sister-in-law. Heidi and I had a small debate about that. Who’s the girl who is married to your wife’s blood-brother? Anyway, she’s my sister-in-law. She got hired on at Spacely. She’ll be working in the same building as me. Hope she likes the job. It’s a great move for her, and the start of a career if she can hang in there. But, it’s a tough job. Good luck!

Finally, today Heidi and I watched Jackass – The Movie… What can you say about that movie? Only in America can people make complete fools of themselves and be paid well for it. Yet another fine masterpiece brought to us by MTV Productions. It’s worth a rent. And, I know, who’s more the jackass? Them, or the jackass who paid good money to watch them? Pathetic.

Life 2.0

by Slack, on April 9th, 2003

We’re almost in the new house. It’s right around the corner. We’ll be moving around the 21st. I can’t wait. I have some cool plans for the office. :) This time next year, I hope we will have quite the setup going there. My old boss, Tom, said he will help me hook things up. He’s quite the handyman type. I wish I had half the skill he does with some of those things. Anyway, router, server, modem, and punch blocks will be mounted in the closet or in the garage. Haven’t decided. I’ve been up and down with the idea of getting a server rack in the garage. How cool would that be? Boy, I’m a geek. The entertainment center will be a linux server running Freevo. Talk about kewl shit. :) I also hope to have enough jacks in the garage to have a small lan party. We’ll see how all that goes.

So anyway, we’ve been dealing with KB Homes for this new house of ours. This company builds great homes, but their sales department is a nightmare. :) They’ve repeatedly tried to sell us a loan, and sell us their Home Insurance. This in spite of Heidi repeatedly telling them no. So, we got an “acceptance” letter in the mail today from their insurance folks thanking us for going with them. Heidi called them and said, “Uh… No.” But, we also took this lender’s business card and stuck it in our return envelope for a Sears card (another company bugging us all the time). We wrote a note in there saying that “I REALLY WANT A SEAS CARD! CALL ME!”. So, I hope our friends at KB start getting calls. :) If they keep up, I’ll find a way to get their FAX machines put on advertisment lists! LOL So, if you guys haven’t heard about this junk mail thing, you should definately do it. Save your non-descript junkmail, and whenever you get one with a return envelope (postage paid, of course), stuff that thing to the gills with other company’s junk mail. :) hehehe I know it doesn’t hurt them much. But if we all did it, it sure would. Also it makes me feel better when I can stick it to these companies even in some small way.

So, I will be quitting smoking again once we move into the new house. Hopefully the lifechange will help me ride the storm out. This time I will do it! I PROMISE! :) Well, my sleeping pills are kicking into overdrive, so I’m gonna hit the hay. Take care out there!

Move is getting closer…

by Slack, on April 7th, 2003

Well, the move to our new house is creeping up ever so quickly. We’re gonna shut down the webstore we think to deal with the move. I’m in the process of getting this site redesigned with CSS sheets, and moving the host over. Fun stuff! Right now, this update is more of a test of the new system to make sure all is in working order. Also, I feel a complete slacksplace.com refresh coming on. You know how I am about that crap. :) Well, when I learn new crap, this is where I test it. Anyhoo, back to work.

CSS, Carts, and IRC Flame.

by Slack, on April 2nd, 2003

So, I added CSS to my list of items I need to learn. You see, I went into an IRC chat room looking for help with my new PHP Cart. There was a FONT tag that wasn’t being seen in Navigator, but it was being seen in Exploder. We’ll I got flamed for asking about it in the #PHP room. lol I should have known better, but damn. It was like calling the phone company and pressing the wrong button in the phone tree. I could understand the reaction if I had asked them how to bake a chocolate mousse cake. Sure, *THAT* would be off topic, but come on. Anyhoo, I got blasted about my failure to pay attention to room names, and for using depreciated tags in my code. ::sigh:: I know. So, I learned CSS last night. Man, how did I live with out it! To all you armchair web designers out there: Learn CSS! It’s easy and only takes a couple hours max. Great tutorial here.

My cart is at about 10% – 15% complete. Still have a long way to go. But, I’m learning PHP pretty quick. Damn it feels good to be learning again. Management sure can rot your mind. I don’t know what I was thinking when I went that way. Never again. I feel like I wasted years off my life. Really terrible.

Well, that’s the news here. I’m outa here. OH! PS: Can you believe Geraldo and his “sandmaps”? What a fucking twit. I hope he was promptly flogged and beaten with a wet noodle.
