Happy Memorial Day

by Slack, on May 26th, 2003

Well, here we are — Memorial Day, and I’m working… Hmpf! So, what’s news in our world?

Heidi is recovering from surgery. Such a trooper she is. The surgery went well, and pretty much as expected. She’s in quite a bit of pain, but doing very well considering someone opened her up and poked around inside her for 2.5 hours. She’s stocked up on pain pills, and well on the way to getting back to normal. Tomorrow we see the surgeon for the low-down on the situation.

As for me, I’ve been feeling quite out of sorts for awhile now. I can’t seem to figure out what the hell my problem is. I decided (read: Heidi gave the ok) that shopping for computer equipment might cheer me up. So, tonight I’ll be pricing out some toys for me. Much needed toys if you ask me. New computer equipment will solve my problem with working on a beast of a machine for my main station. Maybe I’ll be able to get some serious dev work done.

That’s about it in our corner. I’m still searching for that “better way” and refuse to believe that “this” is the way of things being an adult in America… Unacceptable!

Old Friends

by Slack, on May 20th, 2003

Sure is nice when I get to see someone from days back in the far east. The past 5 days (was it 5?) I got to spend some time with a very close friend, Liz. Unfortunately she wasn’t in town to see me, and we both had other activities to balance. Heidi and I had Charity’s wedding to setup and attend. Heidi did most of the setup part. I just filmed and helped clean up a little bit. Liz was in town with her boyfriend for a graduation thang and was pretty tied up with family stuff too. So, that meant meeting when it was already quite late every night. Oh! did I mention I had to work too? Ugh. Truly hate it when work gets in the way of everything.

Needless to say, I’m quite used up at this point, and looking forward to some recoop time. All the pain was well worth getting to see her tho. Truly a friend I hold very close.

Charity’s Wedding

by Slack, on May 20th, 2003

So, this past couple of days was the go day for Charity’s wedding. Her and David were already married, but they decided to renew their vows via the church and all that proper stuff. It turned out ok. No hitches to really mess things up, and most of the family got along most of the time. :) It’s not how I would do Heidi and I’s wedding over, but I dare say most wouldn’t do it my way.

Everyone was in their best attire, and lookin sharp. The brides-maids dresses were very nicely done. Especially the one on Heidi! But, then again, my wife is stunning in anything. ;) The bride was in a very nice dress with a long train. I’d bet the groomsmen would have been all snapped up, but there were none… I didn’t get that. Even the kids were all spiffed up, tho they were still the same ol wild terrors that kids can be. They just looked nice.

Bottom line is Charity and David said they really enjoyed it and they are now off in Disneyland having a good ol time! I’m sure they need the break from the kids, and from all the drama of real life. Congratulations you two!

Slack’s Haiku Du Jour

by Slack, on May 17th, 2003

Too much scotch. No sleep.

Head hurts. Everybody yells.

Shut up. Shut up. Please!

No hair of the dog.

No relief from the pounding.

Must consume water.

So weak…

Damn… I don’t know what my deal is. I smoked again!!! Kids, whatever you do, DON’T SMOKE. Just don’t do it.

Salvation

by Slack, on May 3rd, 2003

Well, I guess today isn’t ALL bad. I know it never is, but again I remind you that I view the world thru mud colored glasses.

Anyway, today I quit smoking. Yes, for good this time. Vile crap. I tried to quit smoking just before our move, and realized too late the futility of my choice. Moving is one of the most stressful endeavors known to humankind. Needless to say, I smoked AND drank that day. Well, things are relatively settled at the new house, so quitting is within my grasp. This time I got it. :) With my trusty patch, I will press along thru the hell that is withdrawal.

In other news, Spacely actually made me smile today! Not the kind of smile I get admiring the sheer stupidity of my customers. Hey, back off, everyone hates some of their customers. It’s a natural reaction. I don’t let them know this of course. :P Anyway, this kind of smile is the smile that only a geek knows. The smile you get at the smell of fresh silicon. (I’m talking about the kind used in computers, you pervs! Tho, we smile at the other kind, but I suspect that’s not a “geek” thing. Pay attention!) Anyway, Spacely bought my department new laptops! Woot! It’s not the laptop I ordered, but whatever — it’s a new laptop! Dude! I got a Dell!

So, I boot the thing up and am presented with the Windoze XP welcome routine. You know, the part where you sign away your Bill of Rights, and Free Speech and all that. I forgot how tantalizing Windows can be. Like a Succubus luring you in for the kill. It’s so sleak, and pretty. Runs so nice and smoothly (keep in mind I haven’t installed anything yet). And the fresh smell of silicon! Tasty! :) Damn I’m a hopeless geek. It’s just too bad Spacely won’t let me slap Gentoo on the laptop. Oh well. That’s what Putty is for. :)
