A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

Salvation

Well, I guess today isn’t ALL bad. I know it never is, but again I remind you that I view the world thru mud colored glasses.

Anyway, today I quit smoking. Yes, for good this time. Vile crap. I tried to quit smoking just before our move, and realized too late the futility of my choice. Moving is one of the most stressful endeavors known to humankind. Needless to say, I smoked AND drank that day. Well, things are relatively settled at the new house, so quitting is within my grasp. This time I got it. :) With my trusty patch, I will press along thru the hell that is withdrawal.

In other news, Spacely actually made me smile today! Not the kind of smile I get admiring the sheer stupidity of my customers. Hey, back off, everyone hates some of their customers. It’s a natural reaction. I don’t let them know this of course. :P Anyway, this kind of smile is the smile that only a geek knows. The smile you get at the smell of fresh silicon. (I’m talking about the kind used in computers, you pervs! Tho, we smile at the other kind, but I suspect that’s not a “geek” thing. Pay attention!) Anyway, Spacely bought my department new laptops! Woot! It’s not the laptop I ordered, but whatever — it’s a new laptop! Dude! I got a Dell!

So, I boot the thing up and am presented with the Windoze XP welcome routine. You know, the part where you sign away your Bill of Rights, and Free Speech and all that. I forgot how tantalizing Windows can be. Like a Succubus luring you in for the kill. It’s so sleak, and pretty. Runs so nice and smoothly (keep in mind I haven’t installed anything yet). And the fresh smell of silicon! Tasty! :) Damn I’m a hopeless geek. It’s just too bad Spacely won’t let me slap Gentoo on the laptop. Oh well. That’s what Putty is for. :)
