Things Are Well
by Slack, on February 3rd, 2004
Rhys is doin good today. His respirator has been moved out of the room as they don’t anticipate him going back on it. He’s now in an tent-like thing which sits over him in the iso. They pump oxygen into this area and most of the time he is not even using the nose prongs. He had to go back on it tonight and was on it when we left the hospital, but all things considered these are very positive steps.
He had his first eye exam and the results show no damage (oxygen can cause eye problems), and normal development of the eyes so far (read: under developed eyes, but not more than expected). One of the nurses said, “His lungs sound clear.” I can’t tell you what welcome words those are. So many positives in the last few days.
Heidi got to hold him for about an hour today. It was good for both of them I’m sure. They’ve been separated for far too long. So, we’re back to the normal routine. Heidi is at the hospital and running home to take care of the pets during breaks. I’m stuck at work and at the hospital during lunches and after work.
So, here I am, quite tired again. :) Time for bed. No sleeping meds for me tonight tho since I’m on call all week… Ugh… Tomorrow’s my Friday and I can’t wait to get home and relax some. Take care out there!

He is so precious you guys!! What a great smile – it warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes just looking at him! Glad to hear some good news and glad Heidi is feeling better. I know it must be hard to take care of yourself when you want to do so much for Rhys. Great job on the updates, thanks for taking the time to share with us all. Always in my heart and thoughts – love you -
Brenda, I’ll be smoke free soon. Going to decided on my “quit day” tonight. :)
So far so good guys. Thanks for all the warm wishes! If we keep going at this rate things will be just fine! :) All this time in the NICU really makes me thing the teen years will be a walk in the park. :)
I don’t know, Allen….he may use the teen years to get back at the adults for what they have put him through—tubes up his nose, vibration treatments, needle pokes, etc.
It’s great to see him doing so well, the expressiveness in his eyes and face.
Soon, soon, he’ll be home with you.
Kathy
Whew,
No posts for while got us a little worried. What will we do when Rhys goes home? What will pray about? What will we wish for? What will do? Aaaagh! Guess you’ll have to just keep posting forever and ever. “Today Rhys went on his first date.” Oh my gosh… I have a great idea… “Rhys TV!” Can you picture it? LOL
Love, Steph and Bob
WOW! What a ham! I LOVE the adorable smile! I’m so happy to hear things have been going well recently! Take care!
