The Fall of IRC…
by Slack, on May 27th, 2005
Wow. Remember the good ol days of IRC? When you could join a channel full of like-minded folks and just shoot the shit? What the hall has happened to IRC? I just spent a good 2 hours searching DALNet, UnderNet, and EFNet for a decent channel to pop in on. All I found was one channel that *WAS* good the last time I was on this wretched night shift. Turns out, I’m banned from that channel… STILL. I got banned from the channel during my last stint on nights for popping a URL into the chat (of all things)… Someone asked about linux… and well, you know how I am about that… This was toward the end of my last night shift run. Some of the folks told me at that time that I should give it a week or so and try again as the ban would likely be lifted… Well, I ended up going to days, and having less and less spare time to chat in IRC so I never returned. Now, since the fates have decided I belong on nights again, I decided to visit the old channel… Still banned! GRRR…
So, yeah… What’s my point? Uhm… IRC SUCKS NOW! SHIT!! I mean, we still have FreeNode which rules if you are getting geeky and coding, but FreeNode isn’t really a “shoot-the-shit” network… At least not that I’ve encountered. So, there’s my late night rant. If you know of any good IRC channels, hit me up!
