A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

It’s Hell Week.

by Slack, on September 25th, 2006

Ok, today begins my personal little Hell Week. Last week I fell off the wagon with the smoking thing so I’m quitting again… As of right now, in fact. I also have been off the wagon in the diet department for awhile. Time to get back on track with that too. I figure if I can make it the whole week, it’ll just keep getting easier in both areas, right? That’s what they say! And THEY wouldn’t lie would they!!!

Anyway, wish me luck… Here we go again. :)

Two Wheeled Therapy

by Slack, on September 20th, 2006

Just got done putting about 60 miles on the bike. Nothing quite like it, and I thought I drop a few lines about it. Reality got ya down? Games aren’t giving you that satisfaction you need? Nothing good on TV? Just throw a leg over your bike, and ride. It’s been my after-work pasttime of late.

I get home around 11:30pm. Just about when Heidi is ready to crash out and of course just getting home from work, I’m usually neither in the mood to crash, or work. I really should be working, but lately the motivation has been sucked out of me. Don’t worry, Joel, I got your email, and will be starting work on your new GUI here soon. :)

Anyway, my usual path on my night rides lately take me downtown to check on the drunks as I get down there just about when people are calling it a night. Do a few laps around the downtown area, and then up Speedway all the way east, cut south and hit the interstate and head back downtown. Repeat as necessary.

Tonight I had a nice encounter with a VERY nice Supra. I think he was out getting some speed therapy as well. He gave me a demonstration of what that car can do, and it is quite impressive, I must say. I gave a couple speed demos to a few guys in a truck on Aviation hwy, and of course I had to return the favor for Mr. Surpa… My demo ended up at a red light right next to a cop, however… Thankfully he didn’t want to hassle me, or didn’t notice that I came up really quick in the mirror. heh.

It’s funny the added positive attention a bike can give ya. You’ll never get tired of the people who give you that nod of approval, or give ya that “pop a wheelie” sign. :) The best are the kids who just go nuts pointing and whooping at your bike. Half the time the parents look at you with that disapproval like your some kind of deviant because you choose to ride, and the other half of the time you’ll get a grin from them. Ahhhh, it never gets old. :)

Anyway, it’s time for me to get to bed. Another night of boredom put behind me. So, yeah, if you haven’t ridden, I’d highly recommend hopping on a bike either as the pilot or a passenger and just ride. :) You’ll be glad you did. ;) It’ll melt all your troubles away — at least for the moment.

57 Montreal Top Round Bowl

by Slack, on September 19th, 2006

Ok, so, being the foodie I am I decided I’d write about some of my favorite recipes, or at least some that I use commonly. So, here’s my first. This is not anything to write home about. It’s a variation on one of my quick fix dishes to beat hunger and do so with a bit more healthy results than a Big Mac… Not hugely better, just a bit better. :) You’ll probably also find that I’m a “cook from the hip” kind of guy, so my recipes will likely be lacking precise measurements. So, here we go.

PDAs are like Circus Freaks.

by Slack, on September 18th, 2006

So, my PDA took a shit again… You know, that’s a much more accurate statement for a user on a Palm Pilot than it is for a user on Windows Mobile… I mean, the statement hints at a period of happiness and success… You know, and then BANG, it took a shit!

To more properly describe life in Windows Mobile Land, I’d modify that statement to, “So, my PDA finally stopped vomiting on itself, shit the bed, and I put the pillow over it’s face…” You know, a statement which better reflects that a Windows Mobile PDA is much more like a circus freak. You know, people marvel at them. “WOW! Look at that! OMG! I’ve never seen any other thing do that!”, they say. Then, when you own one, you just think things like, “For the love of Eris, stop that soul-scraping howling!” Or, “Dear god, you’re so utterly pathetic!!! I should shoot you myself!” Then one fateful day, when your personal circus freak tips over its cereal bowl into its lap during breakfast for the 734th time, you just lose it. You point wildly to the near distance behind it and scream, “SHINY!!” Then, when it turns, you stick it in the back of the head with a salad fork. God… What. Were. You. Thinking!?

I swear, it’s been like 6 years since my first Windows CE PDA, and my latest one from Dell was one of the latest greatest and it is utter crap! I mean, the PDA itself is just sexy! Looks great. But, it’s a lot like that Bakushan down at your local grocer. You know, the one that looks great from behind, and then when she turns around it looks like someone freshly beat her with a tire iron. Yep, that’s how you feel when you start to get to know your new Windows Mobile 5 PDA…

On the flipside, I researched the SHIT out of this thing, because I was so wary of being fux0red again by our friends at Microsoft. Dude, RAVE reviews of this thing. RAVE! Everything I found seemed to be just a glowing review of this wonderful, life-saver of a gadget. Ok, I’m in… … $500 later, I just feel used, abused, betrayed, and a little molested. But, I swear to you there are thousands of people out there who just love their Axim x51v’s.

Me? I’m disappointed in you, Dell!! But, I forgive you. Microsoft, I’m not really disappointed in you… But, think about it… It would be like getting mad at someone with Alzheimer’s for forgetting your birthday… You know, it’s not really their fault, per se… And in 5 minutes they aren’t going to give a shit anyway…

So yeah, my PDA’s done… I’m done with PDA’s. Nobody really NEEDS to be that connected.

No More Smoking…

by Slack, on September 17th, 2006

Hi there. It’s me again. So, I’ve decided to up the difficulty lately. Yeah, I know: “Way to go assface!” right? What’d I do? Well, it’s not entirely bad. In fact, it’s not a bad thing at all — aside from all the chaos my mood swings will cause… I’m quitting smoking again. WHEEEEEE! So, we are on day two today… Let me tell ya, yesterday was the worst day one I’ve EVAR had. Not sure what the deal with that was. What’s even stranger is today I don’t have a patch on and it’s even easier! I think the box of patches I got from Botique Tar-Get are bad… They didn’t even irritate my skin!! We’ll see.

Wish me luck gang! I’ll need it. :)

Look Out For That Wall!

by Slack, on September 17th, 2006

So, a friend of mine, Mike, was out and about today and came across one of those things that just had to be preserved photographically. Hope he doesn’t mind me sharing with the world. It’s hilarious!
