Slack’s Place

A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

Fun Banned…

by Slack, on October 23rd, 2006

Ok, I’m sitting here a bit bored. We just got Rhys to bed and we’re trying to unwind after a long day. More on that later. The point is, I’m trying to unwind by drinking vodka and playing some poker online…

I got my vodka just fine, after a bit of a run around last night… More on that later as well… So, I have my vodka, and what do I notice? I have no poker online. Not for real money anyway. Well, I do, but not for long. I got a notice that started with the following paragraph:

On September 30th 2006 the U.S. Congress passed the SAFE Port Act which also contained certain provisions known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 that affects the processing of payments between U.S. customers and online gaming companies. The legislation was signed into law by President George W Bush on October 13th 2006.

Thanks for that, you incompetent fucktard. I’m so embarrased that I voted for him… The really bad thing is I’m not completely certain he was the lesser of the two evils… I so can’t wait for 2008. We’ve got to get something better! I mean, seriously, chances are with us, right?

Well, I don’t want to turn this into a tirade about the mental midget who is leading the free world (you know, that speaks volumes of the populace that voted him in) — but in our defence, I will say again look at what we had to choose from!!

The point of this little rant is the little bastard is killing online gaming. You know, because ‘the people’ couldn’t possibly be smart enough to make choices on their own. Wanna hear what’s more sad than that? It might be an arguable point. What happened to us?

UPDATE: Poker.com will continue to take bets from US Players. :)

I saw a press release from Poker Stars (I think it was) that said it was going to continue offering players the ability to play. In it, it said something like “the proposed bill states that games of chance are illegal. Poker is a game of skill, so we’ll keep offering our services” — or something like that. It made me laugh. I like how horse racing isn’t included…go figure.

I love that!! Poker is definitely skill based. God damn, it just pisses me off. Why do we live in such a fucking nanny state!! Assholes.
