A Ramen Bath?

by Slack, on July 17th, 2007

I absolutely LOVE ramen! I mean who doesn’t? There’s nothing quite like mama-san’s spicy cheese ramen to wrap up a night of heavy drinking. Am I right, Stu? Well, I stumbled onto this little gem and just had to share it with all of you… A freakin ramen bath… I don’t love ramen THAT much?

Holy Molten Excitement, Batman!

Hayabusa 2008I think I can sum up my feelings by saying, “OMFG on a stick!” The new 2008 Hayabusa is here, folks!

For those who don’t realize the power of the ‘Busa, imagine 198 horses pushing a 495 lbs frame! That translates to something like, “OMFG THIS IS WAY TOO FAST I THINK MY FACE WAS RIPPED OFF!” I’ve never had the pleasure of twisting the throttle on one of these two-wheeled rockets, but I’ve been in the saddle a few times, and I must say I was amazed at how light these bikes are! They didn’t feel much heavier than my Gix750 — mostly because they aren’t! Then you think about how the ‘Busa has almost twice the power of my bike. That’s just ridiculousness wrapped in a box made of insanity!

Just looking at this bike gets my adrenaline pumping! I have to have one of these beasts before I hit 35 years old. Who knows, might be more comfortable for Heidi to ride with me. It’s adamn shame you usually can’t convince dealerships to let you go on a test ride… I’d love a sample of what that thing can do! And for only $12k, you can’t really beat that price! Another homerun by Suzuki perhaps? Can’t wait to read the reviews!

Quest For Code Mojo Part 3

…AAAAAaaand we’re back! Oh no! That annoying little twerp is going to bitch about Microsoft again, right? Wrong. I’ve got nothing but good things to say for this entry. I know! Good things about Microsoft, I can’t believe it either. ;) Just for the record, I’m not a Microsoft Hater, nor am I a Linux Fanboy, or aligned really with anything. I like things that work, damnit. All of the OS’s, IDEs, gizmos, etc all have their own personal quirks. You just gotta pick the one that doesn’t drive you completely nuts… Blah blah blah. ANYWAY.

So, I just wanted to take a moment to rave about the Visual Studio 2005 Debugger. It’s slicker than watered down owl shit. I don’t know about you guys, but when I was putting sites together with PHP, one of the worst parts about it was spending valuable time (which is a rare commodity for me) writing debugging pages… Pages that would break the program and display out variable names, etc… You know what I’m talking about.

For those that aren’t familiar, Visual Studio has this built into it, and oh my god is it sweet! You can break the site anywhere you want, and get a full readout of all local variables. Like I said, it’s slicker than owl shit. :)

All for now. Chat at you guys later!

Quest For Code Mojo Part 2

AARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!! Microsoft has done it again!! Taken a perfectly useful and STANDARD coding practice and beat it with an ugly stick.

All you MySQL guys out there… Remember when you first tried to put a string into a SQL statement which included a contraction in it? That damn apostrophe got in the way! So, you likely learned about escaping characters. If you want to put an apostrophe into a SQL statement you had to escape it with the escape character “\”. So, any “special” characters had to be escaped: quotes, single quotes, new lines, tabs, etc…

I’ve learned today that Microsoft’s version of escaping these characters for MSSQL would be doubling up on them. Well, at least for the DAMN apostrophe. How do you escape an apostrophe? You just use two of them side by side. God damn it… IDIOTS. HATE HATE HATE HATE!!!

Disclaimer: I’m still new to ASP.NET so there is a remote chance I’m full of crap. But, I’m still DAMN ANGRY!

Quest For Code Mojo Part 1

So, ever since I got into the management side of things at Spacely, my tech skills have kind of plateaued. Damn mind-numbing management BS. I’ve been jumping back into the code lately — back into the ASP.NET side of things. Since it’s such a departure from the way of thinking you use with PHP and other open source tech it’s been difficult and frustrating.

I thought I might try to write about my findings and what not here. I’m sure nothing that comes out of my mouth will be profound in the sense that it’s a great ASP.NET revelation, but who knows, some noob out there might be having the same issues I am and might just appreciate hearing from another noob. Or maybe not. As you know, I don’t care. This is my brain dump, you’re just along for the ride. More behind the jump.
