See You Next Year (Post-a-Day, day 31)

by Slack, on December 31st, 2007

Ok, so I didn’t do so well on the post a day thing. I did decent though! Better than I thought, frankly. So, this is the last day of my post a day experiment, and my last day for smoking too! I know, I know, blah blah blah. Talk is cheap (or type in this case). I’m committed this time! You know, just like I was before! :) This time I’m gonna do it though! If I make it 6 months, then I get to choose what color Heidi dyes her hair! WOOT. She’s confident it won’t happen, so it will be even more fun to succeed! I was thinking — as I think I mentioned before — kool-aid red. She calls it pornstar red and is against it… Maybe jet black with a red streak in it? :) LOL We got 6 months to plan for it. Any ideas for her hair color, feel free to post em here!

In other news, this happens to be the last day of 2007. YAY! 2007 was most decidedly NOT our year, contrary to believing it totally would be. Now I realize that 2008 is actually going to be our year! I can feel it! Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t terrible by any means… I’ve been through terrible, and 2007 was not terrible.

I have so many damn projects in my queue now! OMG. It’s a good thing though. One of my resolutions is to keep the momentum going with my side projects. They are fun, and who knows, one may have the potential to become a day job someday.

Oh, and check this. My best Christmas present this year was easily the book Heidi bought me. John Dies At The End is the title, and I presume also the spoiler. I’m just about done — I KNOW!! WHO AM I!? — and it’s just bad ass. I highly recommend it! It’s the best book I’ve ever read (which granted, isn’t saying much at all). Click the link below to check it out at Amazon.

So, I wish you all a Happy Freakin New Year! Have a good one, kiss someone you love, and go into the next year with good thoughts and kindness in your heart! See you kids next year!

(Post-a-Day, day 26)

by Slack, on December 26th, 2007

Well, I missed a couple days there. Mostly due to a massive Linux crash that I had to recover from. Just one of those things where I was tweaking shit, and it created a cascade of seg faults, and I finally gave up and blew the system out. The best thing about Linux still remains its biggest curse. Tons of choice. Unfortunately, this means Linux does a really poor job of protecting you from yourself. :) Mac does a great job at it, and unfortunately really limits the choice you have, and Windows is in the middle ground somewhere I think. Blessing and a curse.

The one saving grace is Linux isn’t cursed with a registry. So, restoring a fresh system is as easy as reloading the files to the / partition, and my /home partition just seamlessly integrates back in. Keeping all my prefs and what not.

So, I’m back, and will be posting again! YAY!

Fricken Angband (Post-a-Day, day 20)

by Slack, on December 20th, 2007

Ok, the reason this post isn’t more meaty is Angband… Tonight was the first night I got to relax in awhile, so I just played me some Angband… GOD it’s a great game! Oh, and you’d think you’d be able to notice right off if you were trying to beat down a Kobold with a shovel! You know what I’m talkin about?

48 Months… (Post-a-Day, day 19)

by Slack, on December 19th, 2007

Rhys,

Not too long ago while I was surfing other people’s blogs, I came across Dooce. I love her site because it’s inspirational to see that one can make a decent living rambling on about nothing but their own average life, and because of the monthly updates she does for her daughter, Leta. When I saw the first of those monthly updates, I said to myself, “I have to do that for Rhys!“. So, here we are, 48 months into your life, and I’m writing the first one. If you didn’t already know, your daddy is a horrible procrastinator… But, I’ll tell you about that sometime later.

Wanna read the rest of 48 Months… (Post-a-Day, day 19)?
