A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

Mom’s an Internet Junkie (Post-a-Day, day 5)

by Slack, on December 5th, 2007

So, yesterday morning I get a call at 0700 from mom… Let me preface this little anecdote by saying this is the woman who fought tooth and nail to upgrade her calculator of a computer some time ago. Because you know, it’s not important. She’s now on Vista (god help us) on a fairly new computer. Give me some time and I’ll get Linux on that machine. Anyway, this is also the woman who fought tooth and nail against a broadband connection. Because you know, it’s not important.

She calls me up this morning and her voice conveys a picture of a lady whose hair is standing on end, all her nails are bitten off, and she’s frothing at the mouth. Her first words to me are, “Please don’t be angry with me…” Unfortunately she has had the pleasure of waking me from my slumber before. On a sidenote, let me apologize to anyone who has been the victim of me waking up… My poor poor wife… She’s gotta deal with that for the rest of her life. So, the short of the story is my mom’s internet connection is down. I walk her through rebooting her cable modem, and all is well after that. She’d been up since 0300 dealing with this no doubt. And of course, she was nice and calm when she called, because you know, it’s not important. ;)

Naaaahahhahhahaaiceeeee…… I just moved and I was thinking… hmm I’m not going to have time to use any of my machines for about a week, in turn I just kept putting off transferring my service to the new location. Well.. long story short it’s quite annoying to thumb through yellow pages for a number, mind numbing to seek through the map book to find the next job or location of an estimate. To those of you who don’t think it is that important, cut up all you power cables and see how long you will last.:)~

***Disclaimer**** (UNPLUG ALL DEVICES FIRST!)

Slack says:

Agreed! I can’t live without my tech, and I’d bet that most couldn’t. ;) Even my mom. :)

Oh, hey bud, write your sister an email!! :)

Mom says:

Got this high speed internet mainly to appease you and with the promise of remote assistance when I need help. So long as I can send and receive email and chat on-line with family…am happy and satisfied. Thanks for all your help, Hon.

Love you, Mom xoxoxo

Dave says:

Time…..time……time… TIME!!!! AAAaaaRrrrgHHH! Blasted time! ok, I’m done…

-and yes I will.. soon.
