Sad Realities…

by Slack, on February 12th, 2008

So, if you know us, or keep up with this Blog, you know we are broke as shit. One of the best things about being a grown up is also one of its biggest curses — you can do whatever you want… Well, I “wanted” a new computer system fully decked out, and I “wanted” a new motorcycle… One home equity loan later, and a few hundred smaller “wants” like cigarettes, eating out, and video games has run our debt up quite a bit. :) YAY! It’s the American Way, right?

Well, as with a lot of things truly American, we have a lot to learn. So, I’m stepping to the plate and trying to learn. I’ve since learned we need to get out of debt quick. To do so, we are making some sacrifices.

  1. Selling my Motorcycle — That’s right. Selling my bike. I will miss Suzi (yeah, I named her… It’s funnier if you share the inside joke my wife an I have over this.. But you don’t so nevermind.) She’s in good shape, and I can get pretty good money for her I’m sure. I will get another bike down the road. Time to stop throwing a fit, and belly up to reality… Ahhh reality, how I hate thee sometimes.
  2. Getting rid of Motorcycle Insurance — Obviously… That will save us some cash, not to mention money saved on maintenance, and registration.
  3. Getting rid of Cable TV — This one doesn’t bother me much at all. Who cares about it, really? This is Heidi’s “Motorcycle”. She will have a hard time with this, I’m sure.
  4. Getting rid of Netflix — I don’t think we will miss this as much as I think, but it will be missed for sure. We will be back on Netflix when we can afford it.

So, there it is in a nutshell. The latest round of sacrifices coming our way in the name of financial reorganization. Ain’t life grand? :)

PS: Anyone want a 2005 Blue & White Suzuki GSX-R750? ;)

BlaspNet Hits Alpha

by Slack, on February 10th, 2008

YAY! The very first, and dirty iteration of BlaspNet is ready for Alpha. I told myself I need to get it done by Monday, and I JUST now got the last bug worked out. LOL! OMG. I thought I was going to have to give up for a bit there.

It won’t be long before the bugs pile up, I’m sure. But, hey, at least I got it to this point! That’s a pretty nice accomplishment for little ol me.

So, if you are interested in helping me out, just shoot me an email or comment here and I will get you a login for BlaspNet. :) Right now, I’m off to bed to allow my curdled brain some much needed rest!

Night night!

Happy POETS Day

by Slack, on February 8th, 2008

Thank god it’s POETS Day! The weekend is upon us. I worked two days this week… Well, two and a half days, yet it felt like much more than a full week! I’m sure this is largely due to the horrible sickness we’ve been enduring… Which leads into our first story…

Rhys-man’s infection still has not cleared up. Nor has it gotten better. His hearing is down to about 15% of what it is normally. He continually asks us, “What you said?” This was cute and even funny at first, but now it’s starting to worry me. I mean, the docs aren’t so worried. Neither is Heidi. His ears are three shades of fucked at the moment, so it’s no wonder he can’t hear. It just breaks my heart to see the little guy like this. WTF! Hasn’t he been through enough for fuck sake?! Jesus Christ on a pogo stick… dipped in chocolate. How about a fucking break!

Anyway, in other news. All my websites are flashing the little “There’s a new version of WordPress available.” First of all, WordPress is a great BlogCMS. I highly recommend it. Second, I love that they keep you so well informed of updates. That rocks. Third, I hate. I hate with the fire of a thousand burning suns when this happens. LOL! Now I have to go around and update the sites. Not a big deal. Not a big deal at all, but damn, grrrr!!!

Lastly,  the project I WAS working on, got sidelined for another project. This new project is almost at it’s Alpha release point. Which I must say is exciting because I rarely take projects to anything resembling an Alpha stage. :) LOL Once it’s fit for at least Beta (if it gets that far), I will announce it here. :) YAY

Ta ta.

Racing to Save Lives.

by Slack, on February 8th, 2008

A real good friend of mine is training for an endurance event to bring forward awareness about leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. She’s asking us to spread the word and help collect donations for a great cause! So, I thought I’d share her site, and see if I can’t help send a bit of web traffic her way.

Way to go, Guapa! Hope you get your goal!

My god… shoot this town in the face.

Not So Super Wednesday…

by Slack, on February 6th, 2008

Good morning, teeming millions. Happy Wednesday. Did you get vote in at the Primaries? Good for you. I didn’t. Why? Because it’s not legal for me to vote in them, since I am registered Independent. Whatever, I understand the thinking behind it…

So how are things, this beautiful humpday morning? Well, my head feels like it’s been stuffed with desiccant.  My throat is raw, but feels like there is some kind of sludge clinging to its back wall.

Rhys is still sick. I’m starting to get worried about his hearing. After listening to a podcast the other day which had a guest on there whose kid had a cochlear implant due to a heavy illness as a toddler, I’m now all hyper-paranoid. Especially when the doctor took a look in his ear yesterday commented that “it was horribly bad”. Oh, and every other time Rhys speaks now it is, “What you said?” So yeah, I’m a bit worried that his hearing may be damaged… Is that silly?

Heidi is still truckin along. She’s not sick, per se, but I’d bet she is “sick” of us being sick. :) She’s a trooper for sure. I love you, baby!

In other news — good news — Rhys’ new antibiotics don’t taste like shit! Personally, I thought his last bottle of antibiotics tasted fine, but both he and Heidi gave me a face that looked like they just licked something dead when they tried it. Well, Rhys took it a step further, gagging and then projectile vomiting everywhere. He didn’t specifically say he thought it tasted bad, but I can take a hint. I thought it tasted like Cherry Slurpees. :) But apparently not… Or maybe Cherry Slurpees taste like ballsack too.

So, Rhys shouldn’t need to get any more antibiotic injections. That’s good news, and hopefully he is on the road to recovery… I’m wary of saying that, because it seems everytime we tempt fate with the sweet smell of hope, it smacks us down like a $2 hooker.
