Happy Thanksgiving!

by Slack, on November 27th, 2008

Hey gang! I just wanted to wish everyone who reads this blog a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope both of you eat lots of food, drink lots of drink, and fight with your family — the way American Thanksgiving should be! :) In all seriousness, let’s all put aside our personal troubles and challenges, and come together to be thankful for all the things we have.

I’m thankful for my wonderful family. All of you are so very important to me, and I really should say so more often. You all love me anyway, and I’m thankful for that. I’m thankful for my job, and the ability to provide for my immediate family. I’m thankful for my family’s safety and health and a chance to get together to eat some good food! Even my hippy wife will have good eats today — yay side dishes!

Ok, I think Rhys needs to get out of the Apartment… He has a new semi-imaginary friend. His name is Pothead…

End of Hell Week 1 of 5

by Slack, on November 21st, 2008

Four more “Hell Weeks” to go! We survived this week without killing one another, going clinically insane, or turning to a life of crime. I’d say we did well. :)

For those that are not aware, we have moved back into an apartment. The condition in which we moved didn’t yield us the best apartment in the world, either. I’m just thankful it’s not good ol’ T-Bird. Oh, T-Bird, how you abused me year after year, and I just kept going back!

The new place is upscale ghetto? It’s “gated”, and they do call it “Luxury” apartments, so it can’t be that bad. Like I think I said before, all the neighbors are fine (even the pit bulls). You just get raked over the coals when you are looking for a month to month contract, not that I blame them.

So, what’s so bad, you ask? Well, we’re not used to being in such close quarters with each other I think is the worst part. That, and the biggest thing is we feel like we are in limbo since we don’t want to put the effort into making that place a “home” since we are leaving in four weeks. So, no holiday decorations, no organization, etc. OH! The worst part for a couple of foodies like Heidi and I: the kitchen. Oh, how I miss apartment kitchens. LMAO!

After our little experiment here in the apartment, I’ve given up on any notion that this family could EVER live in Japan.

So, four more weeks of hell (less if we can speed the closing along). I’m sure it will get easier as we adapt to our new surroundings, and this will only make the new house feel like a palace!

Nice Dinner

by Slack, on November 20th, 2008

We decided to get out of the house for a little bit and go have a nice dinner. The original destination was to be Panda House Stir Fry. A nice Mongolian BBQ where Amy, one of the proprietors of the old Silver River works now. Silver River was the bomb diggity. Yay for tangents! Ok, back on track.

So, my son, the fruits of my loins (is that the correct term?), has decided he doesn’t like most Asian food lately. :( I’m so disappointed. heh Mom’s never really been a fan of Asian cusine either, with the huge exception of Ikkyu.

So we went to try out World Sports Grille. It’s like Pinky’s, only slightly more upscale. Don’t know what Pinky’s is? Think Restaurant/Bar/Arcade. Anyway, we went there, because I talked it up and because my son wanted to go to an arcade. Well, I’ve got two words to describe the dinner: WAA WAA.

The “All-American Burger” was filled with more vegetable matter (yes, in the patty) than oh, a bowl of vegetables. My burger literally was two pieces of toast, a parsley patty, and a strip of wilted lettuce. LOL If that doesn’t say America, I don’t know what does! I could have sworn I had a burger the first time I went there, but I guess maybe not. Heidi’s food was less than yummy from what I gathered as well.

On the plus side, the appetizers were decent, and the games were fun-ish! :) It’s a great place to go for happy hour, we decided.

OH! And we went and saw an old childhood friend of mine, Tom. He’s an AT&T Cell Phone Guru guy, and wil be hooking us up with our new phones as soon as the pocketbook permits! I so can’t wait! Heidi and I are still using RAZRs!
