A Ramen Bath?

by Slack, on July 17th, 2007

I absolutely LOVE ramen! I mean who doesn’t? There’s nothing quite like mama-san’s spicy cheese ramen to wrap up a night of heavy drinking. Am I right, Stu? Well, I stumbled onto this little gem and just had to share it with all of you… A freakin ramen bath… I don’t love ramen THAT much?

Ahhh Memorial Day.

by Slack, on May 28th, 2007

Yesterday we all got together at Drew and Cyn’s for brats, chips, chicken, and ribs. They have the perfect party pad. Huge back yard patio — that *I* helped build — for fun and games and what not.

It was your standard middle-aged party. The craziest thing we had goin was Guitar Hero II on the back patio on Kev’s huge flat screen TV. Don’t get me wrong, that was fucking awesome as far as I’m concerned. Cyn made her first attempt at ribs, and I’m told they were sprinkled with crack. I promise I’ll try them next time, Cyn…

The big news for yesterday was Ricky and Linnea’s baby girl!!! So, congratz again, you two! That’s such awesome news! You guys are going to be great parents! I’m sure of it.

Lastly, I finally completed my very first ASP.NET project! Woot, yay me! More ranting/raving about ASP.NET in a later post.

Tomorrow, it’s back to the same ol same ol. Punch in, punch out. Take a hit here, take a hit there. Good times. Well, chin up, and I’ll see you guys on the other side of Friday. ;)

Oh, some pictures of Memorial Day fun, behind the cut.

Nuclear Noodles (or rice)

by Slack, on May 21st, 2007

So, I concocted a new dish which is both easy to cook and yummy to eat. I haven’t written about food in awhile — heck I haven’t written about much of anything in a while, so here’s a new recipe for you. Charles, if you are still reading, you’ll LOVE this dish.

First get some noodles. I use soba noodles, but any noodle works fine, or rice even. Then pick up some meat, peppers, garlic, corn, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, arrowroot, basil and napa. Grab your favorite single serving wok and oil the bad boy up with some peanut oil. Get that all hot and dangerous, and then press one clove of garlic into the oil. I got a new garlic press this weekend. It’s my newest Can’t Live Without It kitchen tool, but I digress. Chop up some meat into bite sized or smaller bits. Chuck the meat into the garlic and oil. Now take your peppers and grind em up in the mortar and pestal or chop em up if they are fresh. I use these strange little African red peppers. This would be the nuclear part of the mixture. Add the peppers to the wok and give everything a flippity flip or a stir.

While the meat, garlic, and peppers are cooking up all nice, chop up a couple leaves of napa. Chuck the napa, and corn into the wok and do the flippity flip again. Now, add a nice helping of basil to the mix, some soy sauce, and rice wine vinegar. Stir that around a bit. This would be the part where I add the soba noodles, about a 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and then about 1/4 cup of water to the mix and let everything get happy until the noodles are cooked. You will probably have a nice bit of liquid in the mix still. Crank the heat up, and drop in some arrowroot to thicken the sauce up. Once you have a good consistency for the sauce, plate and enjoy. Have a shot of cream on the side for when you are done. ;)

It’s a great breakfast, and leaves the house smelling like roasted garlic for the rest of the day. Your wife will no doubt enjoy the delicate aroma and thank you profusely.

The 2007 Live Better Saga, Part 2

by Slack, on April 4th, 2007

We are three days into our new diets and positive changes. So far, so good, sort of. Heidi is kicking ass as per usual. She’s down 6 lbs already. I’m only down 3.5 lbs. I’m going to modify my ridiculous calorie and fat restraints, because, well, they are ridiculous. So, I’m shooting for 1200 calories and 30g of fat on the weekdays now, and 2000 calories and 50g of fat on the weekends. I think that will be a reasonable restriction, and should keep everything good.

No other news in my world… Have fun out there!

The 2007 Live Better Saga, Part 1

by Slack, on April 2nd, 2007

Well, I was doing quite well for awhile there. I had my weight down to a respectable level, I was eating healthy, and actually exercising. Then something happened. Life happened, and I slipped back into the old routine. The easy routine. The routine that includes huge bags of chips and green onion dip… God, that stuff is good.

But, no more, I say! It’s time to get back on track. Time to eat better, lose some of this damn weight, and actually start exercising again! Yes, that’s right, we’re going on another trip to Mexico.

The beach always inspires us to look better. I mean you can only take it so long before the chiseled freaks on the beach make you want to club them over the head with a baby seal.

So, today is day one of 2007′s Live Better Saga. What’s the plan?

* Calories are coming down. No more than 1200 calories and 20g of fat on weekdays. I’ll up that to 2000 calories and 35g of fat on weekends.

* At least 20 minutes of exercise every weekday. Hopefully I can pull off more…

* Time to cut out the processed meats. Time to eat more healthy, damn it!

So, we’ll see where this takes me. I have till April 20th to get into “Beach Shape”. Wish me luck!

The Soju Experience

by Slack, on April 1st, 2007

So, I decided to pass along a post I’ve found on a bunch of blogs. Whoever wrote this originally really hit the nail on the head with their description of “The Soju Experience.” I’ve been talking a lot about soju lately, so I thought it fitting to post this. It’s accurate, and hilarious! Enjoy! I’d love to credit the original author, but as far as I can tell it’s author unknown…
