This is Nerdy!

by Slack, on February 20th, 2008

I just love shit like the Flo Control. Other guys dream about project cars and putting on a second story for their house. I dream about computerizing everything from the blinds to the flushing of the toilets. I mean how cool would it be to have a PA system in your house, connected to a voice activated computer that would provide you with all kinds of data and help.

Things like checking if it’s raining, and if it is, not watering the plants. Is it cold inside the house? Check the time and see if the sun is in a good position to allow for natural heating and open the corresponding blinds. Are the lights on in a certain room and there are no humans in that room? Turn off the lights… Shit like that.

As with project cars, you need money to do these things… One day I’ll get to indulge my inner mad-scientist. :)

One of my most favorite project houses is linked here. I can’t wait to get something like this setup at home.

Garmin StreetPilot c330

by Slack, on August 10th, 2007

I just recently got my hands on a Garmin StreetPilot c330. I must say it’s quite a nifty little device, and I can wait to use it on our next trip on the road.

It’s a great piece of hardware and I’m not really here to review it. I just wanted to share a bit out of the literature that came with it. Of course, it’s something from the “Warning” section. It states, “This product should not be used to determine ground proximity for aircraft.”
Wow. Thanks for that, Garmin!!

Yay for Bugs!

by Slack, on August 21st, 2006

I’d just like to stop and take a moment to celebrate bugs… YAY FOR BUGS!!! I mean, let’s stop and recognize some of the things that BUGS make possible:

1. Bugs in your directory delete function can destroy an entire root web directory in nanoseconds!
2. Bugs allow us to experience that OH SO FUN “Oh-Shit-Second”!
3. Bugs are a good excuse to drink heavily after an entire night’s work is in the shitter!
4. Bugs can single-handedly destroy your code AND your will to keep coding.
5. Bugs allow us to waste HOURS UPON HOURS of time searching for them. Only to find the BUG is a missed semi colon!!!
6. Without bugs, there would be no DEBUGGING!!! WE ALL LOVE DEBUGGING!
