Slack’s Place

A real-time account of life among the Earthlings…

Home Crap Home

by Slack, on November 11th, 2008

Here we are, back to apartment living. Friday, our world kicked into high gear and we got our house rented out, moved 90% of our crap into storage, and moved 10% of our crap into a new apartment. To sum it up, it’s worse than I thought it would be, but not so bad that I’m miserable. :)

We’re not going to try and make this place a home. It’s just a storage room. We’re here for a month to a month and a half and then it’s off to the new house!

So, when did apartments start doing things based on supply and demand? I mean, I don’t blame them, but it’s just kind of funny that a one bedroom was $1900/month, and a two bedroom was $1000/month!? LOL I asked, “Well, crap, how much are your three bedrooms, then?!”

So, today, we got our internet and cable tv back. God it feels good to be back. We got nice cable and nice internet this time, too. ;) Tomorrow I get to test if all my remote configurations still work.

Last thing left before we put ourselves in deep freeze for the trip to the new house is to turn over the old house to the renters. Should be doing that next day or two.

Joel’s Show’s Site Redesign is Done

by Slack, on September 21st, 2008

I got the redesign for the Joel Gaines Show done (http://www.joelgainesshow.com). Now I can move on to finishing my Authentication Class. During the redesign I made a PHP class for custom borders. I will post it at House Trevethan for anyone who wants to use it.

Tomorrow begins a new week! I hope everyone’s week goes well! See you on the other side!

PS: If you own a small business (or a large one) or know anyone who does and who might be interested in advertising on a political talk show, please let us know by writing to marketing@joelgainesshow.com. THANKS!

Remembering…

by Slack, on September 11th, 2008

Where were you on 9/11? It was one of those defining moments that will remain with me forever. I was on a business trip to Washington, DC. This was the first trip that I opted to bring my wife along on — hindsight being 20/20, I’m so glad she came along. My boss and his wife were along for the trip as well. He and I were in DC for training, and we decided it would be fun to try and see the sights with the families while we were there.

I remember while in class, we got news that something had happened to one of the towers.

I remember how the tension built up from the moment the first plane struck to when the first town came crashing down.

I remember how we all first thought how terrible that a plane crashed into the tower, and then watching everyone’s faces as we realized later what really was happening. It was made even more tense for us in the training since we had no access to TV. It wasn’t until much later that I got to see the visuals of those towers coming down.

I remember when I discovered there were two terrorist cells in the hotel we were staying at — one cell directly above our room. Being questioned by an FBI agent, and looking at the mugshots to identify a suspect really drove it home…

I remember the trouble we had trying to organize a way out of DC, and then finally giving up and staying.

I hope we all remember what happened that day. I hope we can all put aside differing beliefs about who is at fault, and remember the people who lost their lives that day. Let’s not forget how easy it was for our country to be attacked. Let’s not forget to stand together as Americans — all of us — and make changes to be sure something like this can’t happen again.

Bye Bye, Laptop

by Slack, on September 9th, 2008

This morning FedEx picked up my laptop and is now sending it on its way over to HP for repair. I was recently reminded by a former co-worker about my record when it comes to technology… Especially computers and cars it seems. Now that I think of it, I’ve NEVER once been able to install a CPU without dropping it and bending the pins. I was so happy to see them move away from pins finally!. You remember my wonderful Corvette? Not to mention my current car and it’s bad gas cap…

Well, hopefully things will move along smoothly. I’m having some pretty serious withdrawal without my work machines. :(

Call it, Doctor…

by Slack, on September 5th, 2008

So, we all know how much I rely on my computers. Well, yesterday one of them died. My laptop, which is my work machine died on me. The video card died — and died hard. The machine won’t even post now. So, I called HP, and I have to admit the experience wasn’t bad at all. But, I have to send my machine back to them to fix. Of course part of the process of fixing the machine is wiping my hard drive!! DOH!! That is this weekend’s project. Ugh… I hate hardware…

What’s Up, Dirty Dirty World?

by Slack, on August 17th, 2008

It feels that the three Sisters of Fate are conspiring against my wife and I the last couple days. You know how it goes, the nice run of little things that don’t quite go right. Nothing big, just little crap. The kind of little crap that you’d not bat an eye at under normal circumstances, but when under the onslaught of 1000 little things, you tend to notice. Oh, WAAAA! I know. We’re just gonna give it the finger, and wait until things let up.

I think this weekend was the weekend for crap. I’m having a bad go at things. My wife is having a bad go at things. Many of my friends are in bad moods because they are having a bad go at things, and then we did the show today, and had a bad go of things. Man… A vortex. We’re in a vortex here. Here’s to hoping it moves on to Texas soon. Yeah, F you Texas (I just feel like hating Texas today).

What else? Oh, my back is fucked again! Yes, AGAIN! I was feeling better (maybe about 80%) no Friday. That happened to be the day we moved around computer equipment. I TOOK IT EASY, so quit yelling at me! Now, my back is FUCKED again! LOL It’s not horrible, but I’m PISSED! Now I have to wait this crap out again! For all of you freaks who are screaming “Chiro” right now, shut up! I might… I’ve had bad experiences with them.

Well, I’m gonna relax and watch some Diggnation now. Here’s to a better week next week! :)
