End of Hell Week 1 of 5

by Slack, on November 21st, 2008

Four more “Hell Weeks” to go! We survived this week without killing one another, going clinically insane, or turning to a life of crime. I’d say we did well. :)

For those that are not aware, we have moved back into an apartment. The condition in which we moved didn’t yield us the best apartment in the world, either. I’m just thankful it’s not good ol’ T-Bird. Oh, T-Bird, how you abused me year after year, and I just kept going back!

The new place is upscale ghetto? It’s “gated”, and they do call it “Luxury” apartments, so it can’t be that bad. Like I think I said before, all the neighbors are fine (even the pit bulls). You just get raked over the coals when you are looking for a month to month contract, not that I blame them.

So, what’s so bad, you ask? Well, we’re not used to being in such close quarters with each other I think is the worst part. That, and the biggest thing is we feel like we are in limbo since we don’t want to put the effort into making that place a “home” since we are leaving in four weeks. So, no holiday decorations, no organization, etc. OH! The worst part for a couple of foodies like Heidi and I: the kitchen. Oh, how I miss apartment kitchens. LMAO!

After our little experiment here in the apartment, I’ve given up on any notion that this family could EVER live in Japan.

So, four more weeks of hell (less if we can speed the closing along). I’m sure it will get easier as we adapt to our new surroundings, and this will only make the new house feel like a palace!

Home Crap Home

Here we are, back to apartment living. Friday, our world kicked into high gear and we got our house rented out, moved 90% of our crap into storage, and moved 10% of our crap into a new apartment. To sum it up, it’s worse than I thought it would be, but not so bad that I’m miserable. :)

We’re not going to try and make this place a home. It’s just a storage room. We’re here for a month to a month and a half and then it’s off to the new house!

So, when did apartments start doing things based on supply and demand? I mean, I don’t blame them, but it’s just kind of funny that a one bedroom was $1900/month, and a two bedroom was $1000/month!? LOL I asked, “Well, crap, how much are your three bedrooms, then?!”

So, today, we got our internet and cable tv back. God it feels good to be back. We got nice cable and nice internet this time, too. ;) Tomorrow I get to test if all my remote configurations still work.

Last thing left before we put ourselves in deep freeze for the trip to the new house is to turn over the old house to the renters. Should be doing that next day or two.

Well, we’re back now in the desert wasteland and the heat is here waiting for us. The trip to Show Low was very needed. To sum it up in a word, it was rejuvinating I think for both of us. We’ve been talking about how much that place does for us since 2001 and I feel the same way still. It’s really pretty perfect for us. It has all the amenities we need, and the climate is more mild in both the summer and winter. Heidi would get her four seasons, and I would get my solitude. Now, to make it happen. We’re crafting a plan as we speak! :) heh

We got to visit with our friends up there which was nice, and we got some family time too which was also nice. It was nice to spend time as a family and not worry about all the crap we worry about here at home. So, at the very least we’ve vowed to go up there once a month or two.

That is all… I have to get back to work around here. I just heard my wife say, “It isn’t working…” referring to the Media Center… Ahhhh tech support… Chat at you guys later.
